Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic therapy, is a dental procedure designed to treat infection at the center of a tooth (the pulp). It's needed when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, repeated dental procedures, cracks, or trauma to the tooth.

During the procedure, we remove the infected pulp, carefully clean and disinfect the inside of the tooth, then fill and seal it with a biocompatible material. After treatment, the tooth is protected with a crown or filling to restore its full function. This procedure saves your natural tooth and prevents the need for extraction.

Contrary to popular belief, modern root canal treatment is relatively comfortable—often similar to getting a filling. It relieves toothache pain and stops the spread of infection. Our experienced endodontists use advanced techniques to ensure a smooth experience. Book an appointment if you're experiencing persistent tooth pain.

Frequently Asked Questions

A root canal is a procedure to remove infected or damaged pulp from inside a tooth. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels. When it becomes infected due to deep decay or injury, it can cause severe pain and lead to abscess. Root canal treatment saves the tooth by removing the infection and sealing it to prevent reinfection.

Modern root canal treatment is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling. With effective local anesthesia, the procedure itself is pain-free. The tooth and surrounding area are numb throughout. After treatment, some mild soreness is normal but manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers and typically subsides in a few days.

A root canal procedure typically takes one to two appointments, each lasting about 60-90 minutes. The time depends on the complexity of the tooth's root structure and the extent of infection. Front teeth are usually simpler and faster, while molars may require more time.

After the root canal, the tooth will need a crown or permanent filling to protect it and restore full function. You may experience mild sensitivity for a few days. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits are essential to maintain the health of the treated tooth and surrounding gums.
