Pediatric Nutrition

Proper nutrition during childhood is essential for healthy growth, development, and establishing lifelong eating habits. Our pediatric nutrition services provide evidence-based guidance for children from infancy through adolescence, addressing the unique nutritional needs at each developmental stage.

We work with families to address common concerns including picky eating, healthy weight management, food allergies and intolerances, digestive issues, and nutritional deficiencies. Our approach is family-centered, practical, and developmentally appropriate, helping children develop positive relationships with food.

Whether your child needs support with introducing solids, managing a medical condition through diet, or simply establishing healthier eating patterns, our registered pediatric nutritionists provide compassionate, evidence-based care. We empower parents with knowledge and strategies while making nutrition engaging for children. Book a consultation to support your child's nutritional health.

Frequently Asked Questions

The World Health Organization and American Academy of Pediatrics recommend introducing complementary foods around 6 months of age, when babies show signs of readiness: good head control, sitting with support, interest in food, and loss of tongue-thrust reflex. Every baby develops differently, and we can help you determine if your baby is ready.

Strategies include offering a variety of foods without pressure, modeling healthy eating, involving children in meal planning and preparation, offering repeated exposure to new foods (it can take 10-15 tries!), making meals enjoyable and stress-free, and avoiding food rewards or punishments. We provide personalized strategies based on your child's age and specific challenges.

Most healthy children who eat a varied diet get adequate nutrients from food. However, some may need supplements: breastfed infants need vitamin D, children on restricted diets (vegan, dairy-free) may need specific nutrients, and those with certain medical conditions may have increased needs. We can assess your child's diet and recommend supplements only when necessary.

Pediatric growth is assessed using growth charts that track weight, height, and head circumference over time. The pattern of growth is more important than single measurements. Your pediatrician tracks this at well-child visits. If you have concerns about your child's growth trajectory, we can work with you and your pediatrician to assess nutritional adequacy.
