Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A Breast Lift, or mastopexy, is a transformative surgical procedure designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. This creates a more youthful breast contour with improved projection and repositioned nipples at a more aesthetically pleasing height.

Over time, factors such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, aging, and gravity can cause breasts to lose their firmness and elasticity. A breast lift addresses these changes by elevating the breast tissue, reshaping the breast mound, and reducing the size of the areola if necessary, all without significantly changing breast volume.

At Neoderma Clinica, our experienced plastic surgeons customize each breast lift to meet your specific needs and aesthetic goals. Unlike breast augmentation which adds volume, or breast reduction which removes volume, a breast lift focuses on repositioning existing breast tissue for improved shape and position. For patients desiring both lift and volume, we can combine mastopexy with implants in a single procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Breast lift results can be long-lasting, but they're not immune to the effects of aging and gravity. Most patients enjoy their results for 10-15 years or longer. Factors that can affect longevity include significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy after surgery, breastfeeding, hormonal changes, and natural aging. To maintain your results, we recommend wearing supportive bras, maintaining a stable weight, following a healthy lifestyle, and avoiding smoking. Some patients choose to have a minor revision procedure after many years to maintain their results.

A breast lift (mastopexy) repositions existing breast tissue to raise sagging breasts and improve shape without significantly changing breast size. It addresses drooping and nipple position but doesn't add volume. Breast augmentation uses implants or fat transfer to increase breast size and fullness but doesn't correct significant sagging. Many women benefit from a combined approach—augmentation with lift—which addresses both volume loss and sagging. During your consultation, our surgeon will evaluate your anatomy and goals to recommend the most appropriate procedure.

A breast lift can potentially affect breastfeeding ability, though many women successfully breastfeed after surgery. The procedure preserves the connection between the nipple-areola complex and underlying breast tissue in most cases, maintaining the milk ducts. However, the extent to which breastfeeding may be affected depends on the surgical technique used and your individual anatomy. If you're planning to have children and wish to breastfeed, discuss this with your surgeon during your consultation, as they can use techniques that minimize disruption to milk ducts and glandular tissue.

Breast lift surgery does result in permanent scars, though they fade significantly over time. The extent of scarring depends on the technique used, which is determined by the degree of sagging and your anatomy. Common incision patterns include: around the areola only (periareolar lift), around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease (lollipop lift), or around the areola, vertically down, and horizontally along the breast crease (anchor lift). Initially, scars will be red and raised but gradually fade to thin white lines over 12-18 months. Most patients find that the improvement in breast shape far outweighs concerns about scarring.
